Easy Tips to Get Rid of Aggressive Dog Behavior

Several puppy owners keep dreaming of some high-quality dog behavior training. While puppies seem to have a mind of their own, they are definitely trainable. If you believe that they are purposely doing everything they can to drive their owner crazy with their behavior, think again and remember that they’re cute.

Dog behavior training doesn’t have to be as difficult as people make it out to be. You simply have to know how to do it right. This document was written for those of you who are trying to teach your dog some behavioral training and are having problems or doubts about it. Here are some quick tips and hints.

Tip #1 - Reward, reward and just when you’re running out of treats, reward again.
A large number of dog owners focus on punishing their dog when they misbehave or when the dog behavior training session isn’t going as planned. It simply doesn’t work. The best way to get your puppy or dog to follow your commands and do the tricks you want is to consistently reward his behavior when he does it. This is particularly important for the first few months when you try to teach them basic concepts such as potty training or dealing with aggressive dog behavior.

Punishing him when he goes in the house will not get him to magically want to go outside the house to do his business. When you are successful in taking him outside to take care of his needs, you should immediately pet him and treat him positively with rewards or treats when he’s done. By doing so, your dog will associate doing his business in the right place with getting his owner’s approval. Dogs crave their owner’s approval more than anything else. Keep that in mind and reward your dogs verbally and physically during dog behavior training.

Tip #2 – Rome wasn’t built in one day, so take it one step at a time.
A lot of new dog owners completely overwhelm their dog by asking them to learn all sorts of tricks in a very short time period. Your dog isn’t a fancy electronic toy with a multitude of functions. Take dog behavior training slowly and teach them one trick at a time. For example, teach your dog to sit on command and stick to this one trick for at least two weeks before teaching them another trick. When two weeks have gone by and your dog is an expert at the first trick, introduce a second command but keep practicing the first trick as well. Two weeks later, you can think about introducing a third one, but keep practicing the first two tricks too!

Remember, dog behavior training can be a bit overwhelming for both the dog and the owner so take your time and don’t try to accomplish everything today. Slow down and be patient. You and your dog will get there, eventually.

Tip #3 - Have fun!
If dog behavior training becomes irritating or overwhelming, stop and take a step back. You must be patient with your dog. Do you remember why you got the dog in the first place? Sure, dog behavior training isn’t always the easiest and most fun thing to do but take it slowly so that both you and the dog learn and grow from it. Training your dog should never be devastating. If you ever find yourself wondering why you got a dog in the first place or if you start to resent your dog, stop and take a deep breath. Why don’t you go for a walk with the dog? Take a toy and have some fun along the way!
