Knowing when to take your dog to the vet and when to let him “self-regulate” is a pretty tricky business – how do you tell when he needs to see a professional? After all, it’s not as if you can rely on your dog to let you know.

The Ultimate Guide to Dog Training - Knowing when to take your dog to the veterinarian and when to

“self-regulate” is a pretty tricky business. How do you know if your dog needs professional assistance? After all, it’s not as if your dog can tell you…

Nobody likes to fork out $80 for an unnecessary visit to the vet, but then again no responsible dog owner wants to see their dog suffer either. Frankly, it’s a bit of a dilemma.

I’ve owned dogs on and off my whole life, and the issue of taking my dog to the vet or not is still something that I’m not 100% comfortable with. Of course, I’d rather be safe than sorry and this particular viewpoint has resulted in countless unwarranted trips to the vet over the years. But I also long for the kind of solid information about canine medical basics that would enable me to put my mind at ease and confidently decide whether or not my dog needs to see the vet. And if I can save both him and me the hassle, then that’s just an added bonus!

Stress-Free Dog Care

You can imagine the relief I felt when I came across The Ultimate Guide to Dog Health on the Internet. This guide by Malcolm Fields, a dog-care professional, was exactly what I was looking for. It’s complete and detailed and it covers all common health problems (both serious and minor) that dogs suffer from. The overall focus of the book is on being prepared and learning the preventative actions to take should such emergency situations arise. The book teaches you how to accurately self-diagnose using easy step-by-step flowcharts, which tell you if your dog will be fine on his own or if he needs to see the vet and how soon he needs to see the vet. The guide is packed with useful knowledge and advice from veterinarians and trained dog-care specialists yet the author managed to make it easy on the eye and reader-friendly… Yes, you can actually understand (in plain English) what they’re talking about!

Basically, it’s detailed (but not dauntingly so), comprehensive (covering all common ailments and illnesses), educative (while retaining a conversational, easy-to-understand tone) and it gives you the tools that will allow you to take good care of your dog. You’ll receive a thorough introduction to canine healthcare without spending enormous amounts of time and effort trying to absorb the jargon of a veterinary textbook!

What’s Actually Covered in this Guide?

The book deals with all common dog problems and dog ailments. It covers issues like toothaches and dental trouble, ear infections, skin rashes and chafing, eye irritations, worms, as well as chronic problems like vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, asthma, breathing trouble and liver problems. It also covers more severe issues like arthritis and cancer and symptomatic “alerts” like hair loss, lethargy, and behavioral changes.

In addition to that, the guide will also teach you the following:

How to pick up early warning signs by identifying and correctly interpreting your dog’s body language.

How to groom your dog quickly and efficiently.

How to take proper care of your dog’s teeth and gums.

How to administer medicine safely and easily.

How to recognize the early warning signs of health trouble through behavioral and physical changes and more…

All this information is supplemented by full-color photographs, diagrams and illustrations.

My Favorite Part

While I really appreciated learning more about canine anatomy and medical problems, the information I was craving for was how to tell if my dog had a serious health problem that required the expertise of a veterinarian.

The book fulfilled my wish by including many detailed symptom charts, each of which is especially designed to help owners like me make solid decisions about their dog’s healthcare. Each chart starts from the specific symptoms of a particular ailment and all you have to do is follow the option that represents your dog’s symptoms on the flowchart. The chart tells you the recommended path of treatment for every situation and indicates whether veterinary care should be sought or not, and if so, how soon. Pure and simple genius!

Something for Free

In addition to the fully-illustrated 240-page guide, you will also receive these four bonus books:

The Ultimate Guide to Dog First Aid. This is an incredibly useful resource for those situations requiring an immediate response. You’ll learn how to perform the canine Heimlich maneuver and doggie CPR. No one wants to have to perform CPR on their beloved dog, but it’s better to be prepared!

180 Gourmet Recipes for Your Dog. Learn how to please your dog’s taste buds.

101 Ways to Spoil Your Dog for Under $10. Discover all sorts of luxuries-on-a-budget and activities for you and your dog to enjoy together for less than $10.

20 Super Healthy Recipes for Your Dog. This book proves that doggie health food can be as delicious as anything else!

These books have a combined value of over $80 but you won’t pay another penny. Not bad for a freebie!

A Summary of The Ultimate Guide to Dog Health

All in all, I couldn’t be more satisfied with this book. It’s exactly what I was looking for and more. Even if I hadn’t spent the last decade trying to find a book just like that one, I’d still grab it in a second because it’s simply that valuable.

Every responsible dog owner should have access to an information resource such as this one. Not only does it enable you to make good decisions about common and serious health issues for your dog, but it also teaches you a lot about the minor, day-to-day ailments and afflictions that most dogs will deal with from time to time. I won’t even mention the host of useful facts on preventative dog care contained in this guide…

This comprehensive guide to dog health will help you recognize little problems before they become big ones. That alone is truly indispensable.

What Is It?

Sit Stay Fetch offers a very detailed and comprehensive look at how to avert and deal with common behavioral problems displayed by dogs. I am the owner of a reasonably difficult mutt and I’ve spent a lot of time searching the Net for dependable resources about dog training. Based on my research, I have to say that the extent of information and detail contained in this compendium is abnormally accurate for an online book.

On top of that, the information is in fact reliable (gasp!). Yes, reliable information in this type of medium. That’s right, this one’s a whole new kettle of fish. It was written by an experienced dog trainer, so you can relax in knowing that all the tips and advice included in this online book are tried, tested and true. They all come from Mr. Stevens’ real-life experiences as a professional dog trainer.

What’s Included?

The range of information contained in this guide is quite remarkable. The book covers a lot more than problem behaviors. it starts off with new-owner advice (how to choose a puppy or dog, the best places to buy a dog from, breed information, how to puppy/dog-proof your home, the first veterinarian visit, house training, etc.) and then moves on to more advanced information such as behavioral problems (e.g., aggression, dominance, excessive barking, chewing, digging, separation anxiety, etc.), intermediate-level obedience commands, health-related problems (allergies, cat and dog coexistence, fleas, heatstroke, etc.), and advanced commands and tricks.

Some Especially Good Parts

On top of what I listed above, the book also contains a pretty impressive section on dog whispering, which is a method of dog training based on a philosophy of clear communication and mutual respect. Cesar Millan has popularized this training method in recent years (“The Dog Whisperer”) and it is becoming increasingly popular as an alternative and humane method for disciplining and training dogs.

Sit Stay Fetch includes an entire section on dog whispering. In this section, Daniel Stevens talks about the story behind the technique, he explains how to utilize your voice and body language to your best advantage, and he describes how to use the technique to calmly, assertively, and effectively correct and train your dog. Mr. Stevens also provides step-by-step instructions for the common commands (i.e., sit, down, come, stay, quiet, etc).

The book contains some pretty interesting reading. I put his basic techniques to the test on my recalcitrant pooch and I was amazed at how effective they are. I highly recommend it!

I Love Freebies (Don’t You?)

Everybody loves freebies. Although my magpie-like greed may have led me into less-than-productive purchases in the past, I’m happy to report that this particular purchase of Sit Stay Fetch hasn’t let me down. The freebies that came with this book are not only plentiful, they’re actually useful - wow!

You can purchase the book for $37. For this price, you receive a complete and detailed manual on how to train your dog, how to prevent and handle behavioral problems, as well as a whole bunch of general tips, knowledge and advice.

You will also receive a handful of practical freebies that include four bonus books on these subjects:
Advanced housetraining instructions and troubleshooting (including both the crate and paper training methods).

A detailed study on resolving canine aggression issues

How to effectively groom your dog (including information on coat care for specific breeds, dental care, and nail-clipping).

How to begin training your dog for security work

You will also receive a free personalized consultation with a member of the Kingdom of Pets team. If you have a problem with your dog and you would like someone to help you, simply send a quick email to the Kingdom of Pets team and you’ll receive a personalized and detailed reply packed with expert advice and practical tips.

Sit Stay Fetch: A Thumbnail Sketch

When all is said and done, I’m really impressed with this package. I’ve had several dogs in my life, starting from when I was ten years old. I used to think that I was better prepared than most to handle the quirks and caprices of my canine friends but I was proven wrong… My pre-Sit Stay Fetch self was embarrassingly more complacent than knowledgeable.

I’ve learned a lot more by reading this manual than I’ve picked up in a near-lifetime’s worth of contact with dogs. Do you know how to stop your dog from tugging on the leash without using a check chain? Well, I do now, but I certainly didn’t until I got my hands on this book.

Several of the training techniques presented in Mr. Stevens’ book offer a refreshingly down-to-earth and common-sense approach to dog training. Other techniques such as dog whispering require a little more effort but yield some impressive results. I liked how detailed the training techniques are as they allow each reader to pick and choose the technique that best suits his dog and his style.

I have no reservations in recommending Sit Stay Fetch to anyone who owns, or is thinking about owning a dog. You don’t need to deal with a problem pet for the book to be useful. The information included in the manual will be useful to all dog owners.
